Changes.

Over the past six months or so we’ve had to make some minor changes to some things here at Holland’s.  We are blessed by being busy when some other jewelers aren’t.  Right now we have me, my wife, a couple of part time ladies and Mr. and Mrs. Holland ( they make one good worker together) working at our store.  We really could use two more part timers but they are hard to find.     So we have had to limit some things because of time.  One thing is ear piercing.  We are now only doing six year olds and older.  The main reason for this change is this, it is not unusual to spend 30+ min. with a screaming, crying, and wiggling child that just will not let you put holes in her ears.  Look parents if your kids aren’t ready DON’T MAKE THEM DO IT.  It never turns out pretty, trust me.  I’ve put my share of uneven holes in ears because the parents insisted their child should have earrings.  The only other thing that we have had to limit is appraisals.  We are limiting our outside appraisals to 5 pieces.  The main reason is that we are still trying to catch-up with things bought from us this past Christmas.  As of today there are about 144 appraisals to be typed.  When you hunt and peck at five words a minuite, well you can see the problem.  We always try to give the best service we can and sometimes that means doing fewer things better and not more things average.   Finally, keep on the lookout for some changes to our website.  If you are happy with Holland’s please tell others.  Thanks so much.

This past weekend we went to Myrtle beach for a jewelers convention.  The seminars were great but most jewelers don’t go for the education, they go for golf.  I’ve never been a fan of golf.  The idea of walking around hitting a little ball just doesn’t scream fun to me.  I know I’m in the minority, but that’s O.k.  Now fishing is real sport!!  You, your fishing supplies and the ocean.  Talk about a big course.  Unlike golf, fishing is good in most any weather.  Strong wind, heavy rain, freezing cold, all these conditions bring advantages to different fish species.  And all players are pretty equal no matter the expierence.  I am not trying to bad mouth golfers, I like a good game of putt-putt as good as the next guy but give me the sun, sand and surf and nothing else matters.  No scores, no competition, no worries.  Just some time for fun!!!!
