We’re back

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

It’s been awhile since our last post, but we are back on the wagon. What’s been going on? Let’s see, where to start. First of all Ginny and I took a quick trip to Atlanta, GA for the spring jewelry show. We left on Friday around 12:30, drove 7 hours to our Hotel, woke up and shopped, then drove home. We arrived home on Saturday around 8 pm. Like I said, quick trip. While we were there we bought several (around 20) new bridal/engagement rings as well as some new wedding bands. We are now in the process of printing our own bridal book that will highlight over 60 styles of engagement rings and their matching bands that are unique to our store. Our bridal book should be completed around May ’08. What else? In the upcoming events category look for a REMOUNT show at our store around the first week of May. This event will last about seven days and will include special prices on engagement ring semi-mounts and all other types of remounts. What is a remount show? During that week set aside some time to bring in your worn out or out of date jewelry so we can help you find some new exciting ways to reset your stones. We will bring in tons of ring, pendant and earring mountings for you to choose from or we can create something truly unique in our design studio. Our quarterly newsletters will be going out soon and it will contain all the details. If you are not currently receiving our newsletters, then send send us a quick email with your address and we will get you on the list.DSCN0313.JPG

Hand Engraving

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Making jewelry is one of my favorite things in the world to do, besides fishing. Creating lasting pieces of jewelry that will be used for decades to come gives me an overwhelming since of joy and makes each day exciting and new. That being said, there is one thing that I wish I had the patience and skill to do and that is Hand engraving. Hand engraving is a dying art that has been used for centuries to add life to jewelry. The hand engraver must have a steady hand and unmatched skill with several types of blades to create desireable patterns, letters or numbers. It takes years and years to get good at engraving where as most jewelers can become good at what they do in only a couple of years. We do engrave at our store using a standard manual machine, but the engraving can be very shallow on the surface and must be redone over time. Hand engraving, however is much deeper and can be more detailed. The best part is that, due to the nature of hand engraving, most pieces last forever and never need to be redone or “touched-up”. There are, as far as we know, only about two or three such craftsmen in the entire state of NC. We have made several pieces of jewelry over the years that have been perfected by the finishing touches our partner hand engraver applies. If you would like to know more about what can be created, using our hand engraver, please email me with your questions . Let us help you created an heirloom that can be personalized and last generations.DSC004351.JPGDSC00429.JPG

Tiny Kisses

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Would you like a kiss? If you come into our store you may get offered one. At the first counter, where we take in repairs and items are picked-up, you will find our tiny kiss bowl. Nearly 20 years ago, Mrs. Holland placed a small bowl of Hersey Kisses out on our counter to show the usefulness of the crystal we sold. Little did she know that that small bowl would soon be a tradition that would endure for decades to come. From time to time the Kisses have gotten low, but they never run out. The only problem with those tiny chocolate morsels is that they don’t last very long. If you are looking for a kiss that lasts a lifetime, we have them. Silver, gold or platinum Kisses are great gifts to give someone you love and they come in lots of sizes. We have just gotten in a new charm display that holds our kisses as well as over 250 different charms. Selection is good, and so are Kisses. DSCN0278.JPGDSCN0273.JPG
