Green with envy

angelina-jolie-emerald-earringsAngelina Jolie is always a head turner, but on Grammy night there were two more reasons to take a second look.  Dangling from her ears were a pair of Colombian emerald earrings that weighed in at a whopping 115 carats.   They had a rich, intense color that emeralds from this region are know for.   To complete  the ensemble was a 65 carat, silver-dollar sized, emerald ring.   In a year where most of the Hollywood elite wore diamonds, this dazzling emerald set stood apart.

Lorenzo, IJO designer of the year,  has once again been invited to the Grammy Awards.   If you aren’t familiar with Lorenzo you should be.  They are responsible for  some of the most beautiful silver and gold jewelry with vibrant colored  gemstones you’ve ever seen.   For the last three years they have been commissioned to design something special for the gift bags given at the Grammy awards.   In the past these bags have included, Resort Hotel stays, designer sunglasses, iphones, digital cameras, watches, perfume, clothes and jewelry.    All for free with a value between $25,000 to $30,000.   This year Lorenzo created a magnificent  black onyx pendant with a checkerboard cut and 18 karat, yellow gold highlights.   As well as cuff links with a hand cut, cylinder black onyx and 18 karat, yellow gold highlights.  Within the next week we will be getting these as well as many other new creations from Lorenzo.   Let us put them in a “gift bag” for you.

Hearts Abound

What makes you feel like a MAN?  Playing sports, shooting guns, driving vehicles with big engines and even bigger tires?  These are just a few things associated with being a guy.  Along with some lesser desirable things like incomplete “Honey-do” list, leaving the seat up and forgetting important dates.   We are here to give you the two minute, or rather two day warning.  Valentine’s day is this coming Saturday, you have been notified.   Now, for all those things you like to do that make you feel good, stop and think about your “Honey”.  What makes her feel like a WOMAN?    Pedicures and manicures, fresh flowers, a new hairdo, buying a new outfit and you telling her how amazing she looks after all that work.  The icing on the cake, a new “sparkly” to wear.  And I don’t mean body glitter.   Jewelry is to a lady what a 60 inch plasma T.V. is to a guy.   Looks good on,  fun to use and even better when you show it off and your friends go WOW.  We’ve  got you covered at HOLLAND’S, earrings, pendants, rings, jewelry boxes and pretty much everything the love of your life could want.

IJO Spring trip

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

It’s time for our spring buying trip!!  The first week of March we will be flying to TAMPA, FL. to see what’s new for the year.  Saturday and Sunday are filled with “educational” seminars or as I like to call them one hour “power naps”.  Monday and Tuesday the buying room opens.  There are typically 400 to 500 vendors at these venues but usually we only get to 20 or 30 in the time we have.  If you are looking for something specific, stop by, call or email us and we will personally shop for your special gift.

Does this hurt?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Last November my finger started hurting. It was a sharp pain that I only felt in one particular spot. Not to be too graphic but I am forever sticking myself with drills and cutters as well as burning my skin with a torch. So this little pain was nothing and I assumed it would pass. Well, you know what happens when you assume things. All through November, December and January my thumb hurt more and more until I really could not use it. So finally after much nagging…I mean gentle nudging, I went to see a hand doctor. I am not sure why, but doctors love to press on sore spots and ask “Does this hurt?”. This guy really didn’t need to ask, I’m sure he could tell by how much I “clinched-up” when he pressed my thumb. After the x-ray it was determined that I did indeed have something stuck in my thumb. It had a familiar appearance about it. Whatever it was it was going to be removed today. My thumb was numbed and cut open to reveal two pieces of a jeweler’s saw blade, about 3/4 inch. Its like that old magic trick when a guys pulls 10 doves out from his coat sleeve. How did they get there? MAGIC!!!!! I still have no idea who put those things in my thumb. I know it wasn’t me, I never make misstackes. SANY0001.JPG
