You guys rock!!   In case you didn’t know, we were voted the “BEST JEWELRY” in Apex N.C.  2008.   Being nominated and voted for was not an easy task.  Nominees had to be submitted by “snail mail”.  The form was in the Apex Herald and News & Observer and had to be cut out, filled out and mailed in to be counted.   Thank you for the love!  We love you back!

Better than Nintendo

Monday, March 16th, 2009

From childhood each of us receive a gift either for our birthday or Christmas that stands apart from all the others.   The one gift that sticks out in my mind  was the first Nintendo game system.  It was for my 9 year old birthday and I played it till my fingers hurt.  I actually wore my fingerprints off.   The picture below is a birthday present we created for a special customer.   Using mostly her diamonds we designed a “one-of-a-kind” ring exactly like she wanted.   For the rest of her life she will associate this ring with her birthday and the joy she gets when wearing it.  You can create these moments for your “honey” and we can help.

The heading actually has nothing to do with this post, I just like it.   A popular misconception about the “jewelry shows” that Ginny and I go are that they are mini vacations.  When in fact THEY AINT!   The main draw to these events we attend is not the free food.  Nor is it the great locations or the jewelry shopping.  It is mostly due to the fact that the weekend is filled with some of the greatest speakers of our day.    Last weekend we were treated to a keynote speaker of pretty large significance, Mitch Joel.   This guy is a guru of online marketing, interactive communication and blogging.   Mitch speaks frequently to diverse groups such as Starbucks, Google, Microsoft, Proctor & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Wal-Mart  and Sears just to name a few.   These companies realize how important it is to provide there clients with the best experience possible.   Business has changed in the last 5 years or so and moved headstrong into the Internet.  So no matter how much we like to think that it’s “business as usual” it is not.   So a question that has been asked to us at Holland’s Jewelers is what have we done to keep-up with the changing climate of jewelry.   We know that convenience  and time are important to you now more than ever.   So with that in mind we now offer a phone call or email confirmation when your jewelry repair, special order or custom creation is complete.   Also beginning in April we are excited to announce a new way to keep you up to date on the latest news in Jewelry.  We will be assembling a monthly  E-news letter.   BORING?   Nope, each month we will feature “Newlyweds”, THE ENGAGED, cutting edge custom creations, new finds and some surprises.      YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE LEFT OUT, DO YOU?    This will be strictly “Green”, paperless, so email me at with your email address.  DONE! You can also come by the store and sign up.  We do love your smiling faces!   There are more surprises on the way.  If you have any suggestion on how we can help you, please let us know.     We are here 4 U.

Haute Rocks

Being a custom jewelry designer takes more than a skilled jeweler.  It takes the right material to work with, the proper gemstones, know-how, designing equipment and most importantly TIME.  One thing there is never enough of.   Over the past 5 days Ginny and I have been in Tampa, FL at a Jewelry show.  One of my favorite things to do at this event is scope out colored gemstones and look for some choice specimens to take home with me.   Commercial Mineral is one of the better companies out there.  They specialize in super rare, hard to find gemstones, many of them are from private collections across the globe.   In this collection their designers have created several pieces that I drool over each year.   They call them their HAUTE  (HOT) ROCKS.   The collection has grown over the past several years adding around one new design per show.  I finally had my camera with me this year and get a few shots of these KILLER gemstone creations.   If nothing else this array of rings, pendants and earrings will light a fire under you and force you to push the limit of your imagination.   In case you’re wondering what I bought this year, you’ll just have to wait and see.  I started a couple of drawings on the flight home incorporating the gems that are now in my possession.   Check back later to see the status of Holland’s Jewelers own  “ROCK” collection.
